It also helps to SEAL the results of the level 1 Birthshop, bring it closer to home, so to speak, so that it becomes our good new habit, through a new awareness that allows one to see that we have a choice of perception. Consequently, from that place, every aspect of life improves, from finances to relationships, to all that we are and do, including people-making. The World Health Organization this week issued a press release identifying five urgent health priorities for in earthquake ravaged Haiti.
Among them was 'ensuring breastfeeding is continued.'
As I've written before, in disaster situations breastfeeding can truly be lifesaving. From the news I've heard it sounds as if there is a severe shortage of clean water, and this can lead to disease which can quickly become fatal in infants. In spite of this, there are many persistent myths about breastfeeding in emergencies.
Last year during World Breastfeeding Week, which focused on the role of breastfeeding in emergencies, WHO director Margaret Chan made these"

• Rescue of survivors trapped underneath rubble;
  Treatment of people with major trauma injuries;
  Preventing the infection of wounds;
  Provision of clean water and sanitation; and
  Ensuring breast-feeding is continued.

Control of communicable diseases, such as diarrhoeal diseases and respiratory infections, will be another major concern in coming days.
WHO is working with local authorities, United Nations agencies and humanitarian partners to respond to the emergency. More specifically, WHO is supporting the Haitian government to best coordinate international health assistance to the country. WHO is also collecting data on the health impact of the earthquake to disseminate to other humanitarian aid providers."

มุมนมแม่ ช่วยลดการลาหยุดของพนักงานหญิงมากถึง 30%

พญ.ยุพยง แห่งเชาวนิช ผู้จัดการโครงการสร้างรากฐานชีวิตและสังคมด้วยนมแม่ ศูนย์นมแม่แห่งประเทศไทย กล่าวถึงผลสำรวจสถิติการใช้บริการในมุมนมแม่ ในสถานประกอบกิจการดีเด่น 12 แห่งระหว่างปี 2550-2552 พบว่าแม่ที่เข้าโครงการมุมนมแม่มีอัตราการลาหยุดงานน้อยกว่าแม่ที่ไม่ได้ให้นมแม่ถึงร้อยละ 30 และผลการทำงานของแม่ที่เข้าร่วมโครงการมีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้นถึงร้อยละ 44 และจากแม่ที่ร่วมโครงการ 529 คนพบว่าร้อยละ 56 ให้นมลูกวัย 0-5 เดือน ร้อยละ 37.2 ให้นมลูกวัย 6-11 เดือน ร้อยละ 6.8 ยังคงให้นมลูกที่มีอายุ 1 ปีขึ้นไป สะท้อนให้เห็นว่า มุมนมแม่เป็นที่ต้องการอย่างมากในแม่ที่มีลูกวัย 0-5 เดือน ซึ่งสูงเกือบเท่าตัวเมื่อเทียบกับเด็กวัย 6-11 เดือน และสูงร่วม 9 เท่าตัวเมื่อเทียบกับเด็กที่มีอายุมากกว่า 1ปี (ข้อมูลจากมติชนออนไลน์)
